Tuesday, November 5, a majority of Roselle Public Library District residents voted "yes" to the bond referendum included on the ballot, allowing the District to move forward with plans to construct a new library at 233 East Maple Avenue, Roselle, Illinois. This new facility will provide enhanced spaces and modern amenities to better serve our residents.
The new facility will include:
- Expanded areas dedicated to youth and technology
- Increased space for community programs and activities
- Improved accessibility features for all users, including adjacent parking and a drive-up service window
- A STEM and makerspace equipped with 3D printers, crafting tools, and more
Katie Smith, President of the Roselle Public Library District Board of Trustees, said, "This approval is truly a win for our community, and it reflects the feedback we received from residents over the past several years. Residents helped identify the need for dedicated spaces, improved accessibility and modern amenities, and that's precisely what this new library will provide. We're grateful to everyone who took the time to share their vision."
The design and engineering phase for the new library building will begin in early 2025, with construction projected to start in 2026.
"The community members have guided every step of this project. They told us it wasn't right in 2023, and we went back and listened more and asked residents to help build the vision for a community space through open forums, surveys and group discussions," Samantha Johnson, Executive Director of the Roselle Public Library District, added. "Losing in 2023 led to the opportunity to do a land swap with the Village of Roselle and a better library design. We're excited to continue working with our residents as we bring this shared vision to life and ensure it serves everyone in the community for many decades to come."
