Two Illinois representatives – Dan Bostrom and Rachel Cole – were elected to the Special Libraries Association (SLA) Board of Directors last week. Bostrom and Cole were two of the four candidates elected to three-year terms. Their terms will begin in January 2024.
Rachel Cole is the Curator and Head of Northwestern University’s Transportation Library, where she curates collections and exhibitions, directs instruction and outreach, and provides research support to students and faculty of the university’s Transportation Center as well as to a global community of transportation researchers. She works to make connections between current and historical collections, making the library’s materials relevant, interesting, and accessible to a broad community of researchers and the interested public.
Dan Bostrom is the Member Engagement Manager at the Reaching Across Illinois Library System (RAILS). His responsibilities include performing library onboarding, working with internal and external partners, and creating regular library engagement plans that allow library workers to find out more about system benefits and services.
There are currently two other Illinois representatives on the SLA Board of Directors: Eugene Giudice, Senior Research Services Training Specialist, Dentons, and Julie Synder, Manager, Corporate Library and Archives, Shure Incorporated. Giudice serves as the current SLA Treasurer and Snyder is the current SLA Board Secretary.
As members of the Board of Directors, Bostrom and Cole will have the opportunity to influence and shape the future of the SLA. They will actively contribute their knowledge and insights to advance the mission of SLA: to promote and strengthen its members through learning, advocacy, and networking initiatives.
