RAILS Director of Marketing and Communications Mary Witt retired on July 14, after over 42 years in Illinois libraries.
Mary graduated with a Master of Library Science from the University of Iowa and began her library career at Fountaindale Public Library District (Romeoville branch). Later, Mary moved to the North Suburban Library System (NSLS) where she served as the Director of Marketing and Membership Services, Assistant Director, and Acting Executive Director. She came to RAILS in her current position upon the merger of five northern and west-central Illinois library systems in 2011.
Highlights of her career include the John Cotton Dana Award (at NSLS), development of the My Library Is… campaign and website, serving on the ALA Election Committee (2012-2014), and handling of the system merger communications.
RAILS wishes Mary a fulfilling retirement, happiness with her future puppy, and enjoyment in whatever new ventures she takes on. Thank you for years of leadership and dedication!
