Magnolia Library Closes After More Than 90 Years of Service
After serving the Village of Magnolia and surrounding communities since 1932, the Magnolia Library has permanently closed its doors.
For more than nine decades, the Magnolia Library provided residents with access to books, educational resources, technology, and community programs for children and adults of all ages. Throughout its history, the library served as a vital community resource, offering services and programs that benefited residents across generations.
Peggy Smith, who has served as librarian for 40 years, reflected on her time at the library, describing it as a great honor to have followed the remarkable women who served before her. She noted that their dedication and commitment helped establish and sustain the library as an important part of the community. Their leadership and service left a lasting impact on generations of residents and helped shape the library district into a valued local institution throughout the villages of Putnam County.
The Magnolia Library branch and the Putnam County Library District extend their heartfelt thanks to everyone who has supported the library since its opening in 1932. While this chapter is coming to an end, the friendships and memories created within its walls will be cherished for years to come.
The final day of service will be Saturday, July 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The librarians invite the community to attend, say goodbye to the library, and celebrate Peggy’s 40 years of service with light refreshments, including donuts, cinnamon rolls, coffee, and juice.
The closure marks the end of an important chapter in the Library’s history and leaves many residents reflecting on the library’s lasting impact on generations of readers and learners.
