Waukegan Public Library Adds Second Exterior Mural

Artist stands in front of mural of a girl relaxing on the beach reading. He poses as if he is leaning on a stack of books where she rests her head.

Waukegan Public Library is thrilled and thankful to have a new mural, created by artist Burke Morrill, to share with the community. A Waukegan Native, Burke is a mixed-media artist who traveled from his home in Arizona to contribute to the City of Waukegan’s public art initiative, made possible through the State’s Energy Transition Community Grant.

This vibrant work, located on the library garage doors off Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, was inspired by summers on the Waukegan lakefront and includes elements such as the blowing dandelions in honor of Waukegan author Ray Bradbury, a stack of books for the Waukegan Public Library, piping plovers, and sail boats. The mural captures a private, but timeless moment that brings joy, peace, and an expectation of what is to come next. Waukegan Public Library is so proud to be part of a city that invests in art and imagination!
