Glen Ellyn Public Library has been selected as the only library in Illinois to host the traveling exhibition, World on the Move: 250,000 Years of Human Migration. The exhibit, developed by the American Anthropological Association and the Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, will open at Glen Ellyn Public Library on Saturday, July 27 and close on Friday, August 30.
By presenting case studies from across human history and an array of cultures, World on the Move invites visitors of all ages to recognize that migration is a complex and diverse shared human experience. The exhibition aims to expand the public conversation on the topic of migration and displacement.
“We are so excited to bring this exhibition to Glen Ellyn,” said Library Director Dawn Bussey. “Visitors can learn about issues surrounding migration and feel proud of their families’ migration stories. People have always been on the move, and the exhibition explores where people have come from, why they move, how migration changes people, and where people may be going.”
As part of the exhibition, Glen Ellyn Public Library received a stipend to present programming related to the topic of migration. Some of the library’s World on the Move-related programs include:
