    The Illinois Digital Heritage Hub (IDHH) released the IDHH Metadata Best Practices in early 2017 to assist contributing institutions with providing quality metadata to the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA). This program will provide an introduction to how metadata is viewed and interacted with in the DPLA environment, and will guide metadata specialists and contributing institutions how to use these best practices to create and develop quality metadata that functions well in DPLA.

  • Beyond MARC: BIBFRAME and the Future of Bibliographic Data

    The Bibliographic Framework Initiative, or BIBFRAME, is intended to provide a replacement to the MARC format as an encoding standard for library catalogs. Its aim is to move library data into a Linked Data format, allowing it to interact with other data on the Web. This session will cover the basics of BIBFRAME, describe what it can provide for users of library catalogs that MARC can't, and outline what librarians should be aware of regarding this change in the cataloging landscape.

The workshop explored a brief history of RDA and why best practices are so important in RDA. The main focus of the day was looking at best practices recommendations with lots of examples and exercises.
