Technical Services Assistant- Part-time

Part Time- 20 hours a week

Tentative Scheduled hours:

Monday       8:30 - 3:00 

Tuesday      8:30 - 3:00 

Wednesday   7:30 - 3:00

Job Summary

The Technical Services Assistant processes library materials, provides back-up circulation services when needed, and manages serials operations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Technical Services Duties:

  • Report required statistics.
  • Attend workshops to increase understanding of procedures and adapt to changing rules and technologies.
  • Perform related tasks as directed by the Technical Services Librarian.
  • Oversee ongoing communications with serials/journal vendors and publishers.
  • Physical preparation of books, journals and audiovisuals:

 

  • Attach labels, barcodes, cover book jackets, etc., to books.
    • Check in and process all journals.
    • Identify and handle claims for late and non-arrivals of journals.
    • Minor repairs.

 

 Organization:

  • Manage organization of journals.
  • Withdraw journals as directed.
  • Participate in the planning and organization of off-site journals.
  • Oversee removal of withdrawn journals.
  • Move current journals to bound shelves at turn of calendar year.
  • Maintain a master list of journal subscriptions and locations.
  • Report statistics on current journal subscriptions, bound, withdrawn titles, total titles and total subscriptions, and usage, etc.
  • Keep up with new procedures and technologies and use them to streamline serials operations.

 

Other duties:

  • Open the library as assigned and provide back-up circulation service as needed.
  • Prepare monthly library report statistics as requested.
  • Assist with library inventories.
  • Collaborate with supervisor and report impediments of LRC obligations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

 

Required:

  • Library Technical Assistant certification or equivalent library experience of 2 years or more.
  • Experience using computers.
  • Experience with Excel and Word.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Service-oriented attitude and good communication skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Accuracy.

 

Preferred:

  • Demonstrate flexibility and strong collaboration skills when working with other departments.

 

Salary: 16.00/hr
