WLCS Seeking End-of-Year Cataloging Submissions

The RAILS World Language Cataloging Service (WLCS) has processed over 750 books in languages from all over the globe in this financial year alone. In particular, we’ve noticed an influx of non-English children’s books being sent to us in the past few months.

As we get closer to the end of our financial year – June 30 – we invite you to continue sending materials for cataloging, including non-English children’s books. WLCS is grant-funded, and we want to ensure we demonstrate our value by cataloging as many materials as possible.

If you’ve never submitted WLCS materials before, the process is free and easy!

•    Fill out the WLCS Request Form for each item
•    Send the material to us either physically or via photocopies, scans, or images

After an average turnaround time of three to four weeks, you’ll receive full MARC records built to your specifications.

This year, we’ve cataloged children’s materials in many different languages, including:

  • Ewe
  • Egyptian Arabic
  • French
  • Modern Standard Arabic
  • Russian
  • Polish
  • Spanish
  • Standard Chinese
  • Ukrainian

WCLS is proud to work with libraries across Illinois as they expand their children’s collections to reach more young readers and their families.

Again, libraries are welcome to send any types of materials. We invite you to take advantage of our cataloging service. For more details, visit the World Language Cataloging Service web page or contact RAILS Cataloging Services Manager Nincy George.
