My library is....having an author talk for Native American Heritage Month!
Nov. 3, 2025 (ORLAND PARK, IL) – As part of the Orland Park Public Library’s celebration of Native American Heritage Month, the library is proud to host author Nick Medina for an engaging author talk on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Large Meeting Room 104.
Born in Chicago and a member of the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana, Medina brings a deep appreciation for Native culture, folklore, and storytelling to his work. His novels, Sisters of the Lost Nation, a Junior Library Guild Gold Standard Selection, and Indian Burial Ground intertwine supernatural myths with Indigenous themes, exploring stories rooted in both history and legend.
In addition to his writing, Medina is known for his fascination with local folklore and ghost stories, having researched some of Chicago’s most famous supernatural tales, including Resurrection Mary, the Italian Bride, and the Devil Baby. Audiences can expect an evening rich in cultural reflection and conversation about the inspiration behind his work.
This event is part of two nights the library is offering in November to honor the voices, history, and artistry of Indigenous peoples. The library will be holding a Land Acknowledgment Ceremony on Friday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m., featuring Indigenous artists, musicians, performers, and cuisine. The library will, at that time, do a first reading of its new Land Acknowledgment.
“Nick Medina’s visit and the Land Acknowledgment Ceremony reflect the library’s ongoing efforts to celebrate and uplift Native voices,” said Library Director Mary Adamowski. “We are proud to bring these meaningful cultural experiences to our community.”
