RAILS Announces Jody Rubel's Retirement

Jody Rubel

RAILS Library Resource Specialist Jody Rubel will retire on Friday, July 18, after twelve and a half years of outstanding service.

Jody began her work supporting Illinois libraries over twenty years ago while serving in various roles within the Suburban Library System (SLS) and Metropolitan Library System (MLS). She began her RAILS career in 2012 as an Administrative Assistant before moving into the Library Resource Specialist role, where she has made significant contributions to many key initiatives. She played a vital role in launching major projects, such as Find More Illinois and eRead Illinois. Jody was also instrumental in the redesign and governance of the Library Learning (L2) library directory and learning calendar platform, helping make it more user-friendly and accessible to members across the state.

Her work also included assisting libraries with the Illinois State Library Annual Certification process, managing records retention, migrating and maintaining the group purchase database, and more. As a Library Resource Specialist, Jody focused on bringing in valuable new resources for early literacy, youth programming, homeschool and independent learning, professional development, and other areas that support libraries and their communities.

Reflecting on her time at RAILS, Jody said, “I’m grateful for the opportunity to have a role in providing new library services and resources and getting to meet so many different RAILS members.”

In retirement, Jody plans to enjoy the Explore More Illinois program and continue discovering the many cultural and recreational opportunities available throughout the state.

Jody’s steady support, helpful nature, and deep institutional knowledge will be greatly missed. Please join us in thanking Jody for her many contributions and wishing her all the best in her next chapter!
