Director of Cary Area Public Library Announces Retirement

After 29 years of service to the Cary Area Public Library District, Executive Director Diane McNulty will retire on October 6. "I have had a great time as the third Executive Director of the Cary Area Public Library. I have worked with some phenomenal people who were on the staff, on the board, members of FOCAL (Friends of the Cary Area Library), and members of the public. The Cary area has been very supportive of the Library over the years and we have been able to provide a lot of programs, services, and collections to the community."

During her tenure, the Library became a District Library, moved to its current location on Three Oaks Road, and underwent an interior update in 2016 that added study rooms, additional program space, and the Drive-up Window. The Library also expanded its collection to include a Library of Things and introduced the passport acceptance service among many other initiatives.

“I applaud Diane’s management of library funds, collections, and services but what I liked the most about Diane was she was constantly looking for ways to make our library even better...and did,” remarked Board President, Jan Polep.

Mona Reynolds, the current Cary Area Public Library Assistant Director, was selected by the Board after an application process to succeed Diane.

An open house will be held at the Library on Saturday, September 23 from 2-4 pm to say goodbye to Diane and welcome Mona.
