The Batavia Public Library Board invite the RAILS library community to a retirement reception in honor of outgoing Executive Director George H. Scheetz. The open house reception will be held at the Batavia Public Library on Sunday, May 7, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m. Enjoy refreshments and conversation with Scheetz, the Library Board, and staff members.
Scheetz has been the director for the Batavia Public Library since December 2004. During his tenure, Scheetz became known for his abiding interest in Batavia’s history. He helped spearhead two prominent public initiatives – PechaKucha Night, which Scheetz introduced to Batavia in 2015, and Bulldogs Unleashed, which he proposed to the Batavia Public Library Foundation in 2010 as a community event and fundraising project. He has worked as a librarian since earning his master's degree more than 46 years ago, 37 of which he has served as the chief executive officer of three public libraries in Sioux City, Champaign, and Batavia.
The Board and staff members wish Scheetz well as he enters the next chapter of his life.
