Carthage Public Library District held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new library building on Tuesday, April 15 at 6:00 pm.  The following day, Laverdiere Construction, Inc. brought in their equipment and began working on the site.  Construction should be complete in about a year.  The new building will be about 10,600 sq. ft., all on one level, with a community room and two study rooms. The project is funded in part by a Public Library Construction Act Grant from the Illinois State Library, a Department of the Office of the Secretary of State, using State funds.
