150th Birthday Celebration for Gail Borden Public Library District

Gail Borden Library celebrates 150 years of service

The Gail Borden Public Library District celebrated its momentous 150th anniversary with a huge community birthday party on March 19, 2024. It was heartwarming to welcome so many people to this celebration.  The Library was honored by a city proclamation by Elgin Mayor David Kaptain and a State Resolution by Senator Cristina Castro.  Kane County Board Chair Corrine Pierog also honored the Library.  Attendees loved the "special guests" Gail Borden (Elgin City Councilman John Steffen as Library namesake Gail Borden (1801-1874); Phil Schneider as the Library's first director, Louis Yarwood  (1874-1882); Madeliene Villalobos as the longest serving director,  Katherine Abbott (1903-1943); and Melissa Bernasek as Edna Holland ( 1962-1987).
