Batavia Public Library District is excited to announce the new Executive Director, Josephine Tucci, who joined the library on June 12, 2023. Ms. Tucci holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from University of Illinois, a Master of Teaching Museum Education degree from George Washington University, and a BA in English from University of Wisconsin - Madison.
As a new library director, Ms. Tucci lead her team at Lincolnwood Public Library District through COVID, brought IMRF to the library, navigated difficult book challenges, developed community partnerships, and strengthened library services. She has served on the RUSA Achievements & Awards Committee since 2018 and has presented at various conferences.
Ms. Tucci is thrilled to be working with the wonderful staff and board members at Batavia Public Library and looks forward to learning more about the Batavia community they serve. Ms. Tucci is the ninth library director to serve Batavia since the Library was formed in April 1882.
Former Director George Scheetz retired after 18 years of service with Batavia Public Library. A local history enthusiast and community leader, Mr. Scheetz introduced Batavia to the popular annual community events PechuKucha Night, starting in 2015, and Bulldogs Unleashed, starting in 2010.
Described by Library Board President Daniel Russo as "the quintessential librarian," Mr. Scheetz "worked tirelessly to integrate Batavia Public Library into the hearts and minds of the community."
