The Lenhardt Library’s windows frame the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Bonsai Courtyards, a fitting backdrop for the collection that houses 175,000 items covering everything from horticultural therapy to soil science.

The Library’s displays are thoughtfully aligned with the Garden’s seasonal exhibits, giving visitors a deeper look into the history of botany. Among its treasures is an impressive rare book collection, it's oldest book published in 1483.

The Library welcomes learners of all ages. The Kids Corner offers more than 1,000 items, including books in world languages. They also offer a variety of activity books designed for adults and children to enjoy together, encouraging collaborative learning about science.

Mark your calendar: the Library’s annual book sale kicks off on August 20, 2025. Hardcover books will be available for $5, paperbacks for $3, and all proceeds will go toward acquiring a new rare book for the collection.
